Photonic devices in optical fibers and glass systems

Photonics in vitreous systems
Optics applied to the biomedical area

The Optoelectronics Laboratory of the Department of Physics (PUC-Rio) investigates non-linear optics in glasses and optical fibers. Fundamental aspects of the nonlinear process are studied aiming the application in photonic devices.  The lines of research also involve nanophotonics and nanobiophotonics in systems containing metallic nanoparticles  and considering the effect of Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR). Plasmonic devices, in optical fiber optofluidic components for light switching and for the development of optical fiber based sensors for application in biosensors are investigated.
