NON-EQUILIBRIUM STATISTICAL PHYSICS AND GRANULAR SYSTEMS

Research interests:

  • Kinetic Equations and Stochastic Processes;
  • Mathematical Methods in Non-Equilibrium Physics;
  • Numerical Simulation of Granular Systems.

  • Non-equilibrium physics (NEP) studies problems in which systems are continually producing entropy, that is, disorder. Granular systems are good examples of NEP because their inherent dissipation also creates new and sometimes surprising physics.

    Our approach to NEP is based on stochastic equations. We solve them by various techniques, analytical or numerical, and thus understand the behavior of systems ranging from chains conducting heat to microscopic thermal machines.
