Ph.D. in Physics (1972) from the University of Essex, England, Full Professor at the Fluminense Federal University, Rio de Janeiro, and at other university institutions abroad. Since 1997 he has joined the Physics Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. In the last two decades, his main research areas have been Transport and Electronic Properties of Nanoscopic Systems and the Physics of Strongly Correlated Systems. He has published more than 120 scientific papers in specialized journals and a book on Science and Society; has addressed innumerable invited talks at international conferences and has directed six master dissertations and ten doctoral theses in physics. He has been the coordinator of several national and international cooperation projects sponsored by Brazilian agencies, involving scientists from Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, USA, Spain and Chile, and was the chairman of a Latin-American Conference held in Rio de Janeiro, in 2005.
