Degree in Physics (2002) and PhD (2006) in Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Firenze. He worked in Italy (2003-2009) at the Institute of Complex Systems of the CNR in Florence as a PhD and postdoctoral researcher, at the Department of Physica Enrico Fermi of the University of Pisa, and at the University College of Irvine (UCI) in California (U.S.A. 2010-2011) as assistant project scientist to develop optical techniques for the diagnosis of pulsed magnetic field fusion plasma. Currently, he is Professor at the Department of Physics at PUC-Rio (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), in charge of the NanoLaserLab (Laser Synthesis and Characterisation of Nanomaterials) research group since 2014. His recent interests include the fabrication and study of the optical and spectroscopic properties of metal-organic interfaces, in the form of thin films or nanoparticles. Experimental expertise includes SPR spectroscopy, surface enhanced Raman scattering, pulsed laser ablation and photoluminescence. Major applications include thin film devices for optical sensing, CO2 reduction reaction and external collaborations in nanomedicine. From a fundamental science point of view, the last years have been dedicated to the possibility of performing non-trivial chemical reactions by pulsed laser ablation in water, with a particular focus on the CO2 reduction reaction. The results, published in 2024 in the Wiley journal Small Science (https://doi.org/10.1002/smsc.202300328), have recently been reported in the Newsletter of the Brazilian Society of Physics (https://www.sbfisica.org.br/v1/sbf/tag/tommaso-del-rosso/).
