Department of Applied Physics
Bio-Opto-Nano Unit
Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

SHORT COURSE PRESENTATION
The course will cover aspects of glass properties, optical fibers fabrication, and application of fibers as sensors.
After an introduction of glass manufacturing and glass properties, the first lecture will focus on optical fiber fabrication. The second lecture will focus on the principles of optical fiber sensors used for applications in e.g., temperature or strain sensing. The last lecture will deal with specialty fiber fabrication of novel hybrid fibers as well as discuss 3D printing glass using optical fibers.
– LECTURE 1 (23/09/2024 – 15:00 – 17:00): Glass and optical fiber fabrication
– LECTURE 2 (25/09/2024 – 15:00 – 17:00): Optical fiber-based sensors
– LECTURE 3 (27/09/2024 – 11:00 – 17:00): Specialty fibers and glass 3D printing

The Course will be held in the Mini-Auditorio of the RDC in PUC-Rio Campus
