The story of Quantum Computation, an interdisciplinary Science

Prof. Vahid Karimipour, Sharif University of Technology, Iran

2 de outubro – 5a. feira – 17h – L776

I begin this talk by revisiting the origins of computation and the Turing solution of a fundamental question in the foundation of mathematics.  I then review how quantum mechanics has given rise to quantum computers and  discuss the challenge of error correction. After a brief discussion on quantum simulation, I briefly explain  the basic ideas of topological quantum computation, where errors are protected by topology.  Finally, I turn to one of the  basic questions in physics: can gravity be quantum and discuss how measuring entanglement of states can help us to resolve this issue.
