There is mounting evidence for the existence of dark matter in galaxies, clusters of galaxies and the Universe at large. However, the nature of this substance is still a mystery. In this talk, I will review some of the most compelling evidences for dark matter, and the various ongoing efforts to detect dark matter in the form of elementary particles.
